is about knowing
Who You Are
deciding who you want to
Become
and then creating a plan to
Become it.
Research also proves significant improvement when a teen gains a stronger sense of
personal identity or self-knowledge.
By exploring the 24 aspects of their identity, such as passions, values, and beliefs, teens can gain a deeper understanding of themselves and develop a stronger, healthier sense of self.
Teen Life Mastery is a 12-week journey of self-discovery through 24 building blocks of identity, designed to develop and strengthen:
✔ Self-awareness is how well you know your own emotions, personality, abilities, talents, preferences and desires.
✔ Self-worth is your deeply held feeling about your own value as a person.
✔ Self-esteem is the way you feel about yourself in different areas, like intelligence, personality, appearance, and success.
✔ Self-confidence is how much you truly believe in yourself and what you can do.
Research¹ shows that a teen with a well established sense of identity becomes more resilient in adversity, more resistant to stress and bullying, as well as more focused and motivated in the things that matter most.
Curated from the teachings of over 100 Success Authors, Speakers and Coaches, our goal was to summarize these lessons to be age appropriate and highly engaging.
Overcoming Common Teen Challenges
There is an abundance of research¹ that details the many benefits of self-reflection, goal-setting, and the development of self-awareness or identity exploration. Setting aside an hour a week to work on these things can contribute to positive psychological and behavioral changes.
Teen Life Mastery exercises can help teenagers overcome common challenges, such as:
Depression: Self-reflection and exploring one's values, strengths, and passions can provide a sense of purpose and meaning, which may contribute to a more positive outlook and help alleviate symptoms of depression (Neff, Kirkpatrick, & Rude, 2007).
Anxiety: Identifying and understanding one's emotions, strengths, and beliefs can enhance emotional regulation and coping skills, reducing anxiety symptoms (Hofmann, Sawyer, Witt, & Oh, 2010).
ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder): Setting goals, developing effective habits, and improving self-awareness can enhance focus, organization, and time management, potentially mitigating symptoms associated with ADD (Gawrilow et al., 2011).
Behavior Disorders: Reflecting on personal values, understanding consequences, and setting behavioral goals can promote self-control and improve behavior regulation, addressing symptoms of behavior disorders (White et al., 2011).
Poor Attitude: Engaging in self-reflection, exploring positive role models, and setting goals can help shift attitudes towards a more positive and growth-oriented mindset (Dweck, 2006).
Lack of Motivation: Discovering interests, passions, and values can foster intrinsic motivation, leading to increased engagement, persistence, and achievement (Ryan & Deci, 2000).
Poor Academic Performance: Clarifying goals, developing effective study habits, and leveraging strengths can improve academic performance and increase motivation (Crede & Phillips, 2011).
Social Disorders: Understanding one's personality, strengths, and values can enhance self-confidence and social skills, potentially improving interactions and relationships (Leary & MacDonald, 2003).
Victim Mentality: Exploring beliefs, values, and personal agency can empower individuals to take responsibility for their actions, shifting from a victim mindset to a proactive mindset (Bandura, 1999).
Low Self-Esteem: Identifying strengths, setting achievable goals, and developing a positive self-narrative can enhance self-esteem and self-worth (Sedikides & Gregg, 2008).
While benefits may differ from person to person, the Teen Life Mastery program aligns with established research in positive psychology, goal-setting theory, cognitive-behavioral approaches, and self-determination theory.
